Dear Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo:
We are bus riders on Woodhaven and Cross Bay Boulevards strongly urging you to take important steps to shorten commute times, increase reliability, and increase the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
We understand the City is considering changes to improve transportation along Woodhaven Boulevard. As you do, please consider the needs of bus riders, and include these changes:
-Build full-featured Bus Rapid Transit to make bus service faster and more reliable. 26,000 people ride buses on Woodhaven and Cross Bay Boulevards every day, and we are stuck sitting in traffic with some of the longest commutes and slowest transit times in the city.
-Increase local bus service. As you improve buses and traffic flow, local buses must remain a priority.
-Improve pedestrian safety. In keeping with the Mayor's Vision Zero campaign, we urge you to continue to focus on implementing the program to prevent pedestrian fatalities.
What is your idea to improve public transit?
The Riders Alliance is a grass-roots membership organization of subway and bus riders dedicated to winning better transit in New York City.
